Capability Mapping – Building for the Future

There are two sides to capability mapping: firstly, identifying the skills you need as a business for the future and secondly, mapping your current team against that. Do you have the potential within your current talent, to meet the business needs of the future?

And if not, how can you plug those gaps? Is it a training gap? Would it need to be new hires?

With the pace of change, uncertainty and technological advancement, it is the reality for most industries that we will need different skills for success in the next five years, than we have in our current teams.

And rather than seeing this as a doom and gloom picture of robots taking our jobs, many organisations view this as the opportunity to be at the cutting edge of those developments. How do we build skills now for using AI in our work? How do we prepare people for rapid changes in supply chain and ensure they have the ability to adapt?

As part of any assessment or competency framework project, we will ask questions of senior stakeholders about the vision of the business, where it is going, and where the market is going. This will highlight any potential needs to be thinking about the future skills required. Then we can identify the gaps between what people describe as the skills that define success today, and those abilities for the future.

If you’re looking at ways to future-proof your business, then let’s have a conversation. There are often external sources that can give useful insight into what skills you may need to be looking at and we can guide you in that process, whilst building your team for managing these sorts of conversations and projects in-house in future.
